We work with real estate pros, retirees and pre-retirees to build comprehensive plans that help you achieve your unique definition of financial freedom.
We serve two different types of clients – real estate professionals/investors/small business owners, as well as pre-retirees and retirees.
Maybe you are a successful real estate professional helping your clients find their dream homes. You live, breathe, and sleep real estate, but you aren’t really sure if you have the financial plans in place to achieve the life you want to have, now and in the future.
Or, maybe you have saved steadily over many years or inherited some investments and now you’re wondering about what financial freedom might look like for you within the next few years.
Maybe you are heavily invested with rental properties but have always been curious about the stock market and just don’t know where to start. Maybe you are the breadwinner and want to be sure that you are saving enough for your children’s education, in addition to your own retirement. Or maybe retirement seems like a foreign concept that you might not like anyway!
Maybe you and your spouse are dual-earners and you want to make sure you have the right financial foundation for one spouse to change careers or stop working altogether. Maybe you want to leave a legacy by sharing your time or resources with those that are less fortunate.
Whoever you are, and whatever your dreams, they are unique. We will thoughtfully partner with your family to build a financial plan that helps you achieve your definition of financial freedom.
Core belief #1: Investments come (almost) last in your financial plan.
First, how can you decide what to invest in without clearly understanding your goals? We believe that the plan informs the investments, not the other way around.
How will you know if your investments are successful? Will it be if you achieve a certain rate of return? Or will it be if you can meet your goals and live the life you want to have?
We think the best way to get a good night’s sleep is to thoroughly evaluate your goals, then commit to and execute a simple, well-thought-out investment plan that you can understand. We’ll be with you every step of the way.
Core belief #2: I’m an investment professional and I don’t know how to pick stocks. And neither does anyone else.
We believe in having clear eyes when it comes to the markets. Your investment experience will be mostly driven by two things: savings behavior and asset allocation – otherwise known as risk and reward! What does that mean for you in practice?
We’ll assess your goals and risk tolerance, then choose an appropriate mix of stocks and bonds to complement your overall portfolio.
Buy low-cost, diversified funds.
(Optional) Emphasize sustainable investments within your portfolio.
Stay disciplined! Don’t try to time the markets or predict the future.
Sounds simple, right? We know it can be tough when the market swings, so we’ll be there to help you navigate your emotions and stay the course toward your goals.
Bottom line: Products don’t solve problems. Plans do.
I founded Real Estate Wealth Planning in order to help real estate pros, pre-retirees and retirees find true financial freedom through comprehensive financial life planning.
Prior to starting this company, I was a Regional Director at Dimensional Fund Advisors, a low-cost investment manager, where I helped manage client assets in a straightforward way that let them sleep at night.
Before I worked in financial services, I spent nine years in the education sector, first as a sixth grade math and science teacher, and then as Director of Partner Services for EverFi, an education technology company focused on financial literacy and life skills. Throughout my career, I traveled throughout most of the United States in order to teach thousands of children and adults in-person and virtually.
I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin – twice! First, with a BA in Sociology and ten years later with an MBA.
My family lives in beautiful Sunset Valley, Texas, which is a tiny 1-square-mile municipality full of walking trails surrounded by the City of Austin.
I am proudly married to Ross Ponder, a high-producing REALTOR® in Austin, Texas. Ross and I have three children, Lucy, Hank, and Ruth, and two rescued German Shepherds, Bear and Molly.
When I went through my own financial life planning process, it was really clear to me that my most cherished values are spending time with my family and friends. I love to gather people in our (usually messy!) home, cook something I found on NYT Cooking, and laugh at the inevitable antics that our toddlers get themselves into.
Outside of our home, I love Austin’s incredible restaurant scene and exploring the outdoors that we are blessed to live near. Our family attends St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in central Austin.
Growing up, my family was raised on a public school teacher’s salary, so money was always tight. Poor decisions by extended family members essentially wiped out much of my college fund, forcing me to become very frugal and financially literate as a teenager.
Throughout my career in education, I taught math, financial literacy and business skills to middle school and high school students, which solidified my belief in the power of a good education as the great equalizer. I believe all people deserve access to fair, unbiased information about their finances, which is why I am both a fee-only fiduciary financial planner and also provide educational courses accessible to a wider audience.
